Bell Notes | Saxophone Family

Al McLean plays through three different sizes of saxophone: tenor, alto, and soprano. Beautiful playing. It's worth putting headphones on and closing the eyes...

"Michael Finnegan" | The traditional lyrics

There was an old man named Michael Finnegan He grew whiskers on his chinnigan. The wind blew them off, but they grew in again. Poor old Michael Finnegan, begin again. How many claps are there in his name?

Music as a Language: Victor Wooten at TEDxGabriolaIsland

Victor Wooten is regarded as one of the best bassists in the world. His views on music as a language represents the foundation of what students should be learning in public schools, and why music is still a vital part of elementary education.

TEDxSydney - Richard Gill - The Value of Music Education

Worth the 13 minute commitment. The Virginia Beach City Public Schools was recently named one of the  Best Communities for Music Education for 2012 . This is a prestigious national designation sponsored by the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing active participation in music. Beach schools were among the 166 school divisions and 10 schools across the country recognized. Some takeaways...and why we do what we do. Is it really just a fun activity, or is there a lot more to it? "Music is worth teaching for its own sake. It is worth teaching because it is good. It is worth teaching  b e cause it is unique. It is worth teaching  because it empowers children spectacularly" "Music is an aural art...Sound organized in some way passing through time." "It is abstract. It doesn't mean anything outside of itself. In each person, music evokes a different response Mus

VA Beach All City Chorus 2014 | GO SURFERS!

Every year, VA Beach Schools All City Chorus is an amazing experience for the students involved. Every elementary school sends six of its fifth graders to sing as part of the powerhouse chorus. Way to go to our 4 that attended this year out of the six that were selected! Drew, Leo, Noelle, and Jahre! Here are some recordings I found that a parent uploaded to Youtube. While they don't show the whole chorus, the recordings are pretty good. Stop and listen to the 25 minute concert through all the videos. Jahre is right in the front, and Noelle is behind him to the right. Drew and Leo are just outside the frame on the right, but the video doesn't pan that far over. Congratulations to you all! Well Done.

Say Something | PS22 CHorus

Though it's a song with a sad message, the beauty of music, simply stated, can't be undone in the ears and minds of a focused listener.
